Overview
The aim of the module is to determine the current listening ability of the learner, and create an awareness of the impact listening has on the quality of their relationships, work and home lives. The purpose is to equip learners with the necessary skills and techniques to listen more attentively, to show understanding and to communicate empathy effectively.
Specific Outcomes
On completion of the course, a person should be able to:
- Evaluate the effectiveness of their listening ability.
- Understand the communication process.
- Identify external barriers to effective listening.
- Identify internal barriers to effective listening.
- Explain the importance of body language.
- Explain the components of active listening.
- Apply active listening techniques.
- Listen with empathy (validate feelings).
