Overview
Stress and productivity are closely related. High levels of stress lead to a decrease in productivity and poor quality of life. More or less 75% of all illnesses is regarded as psychosomatic and can be related to stress as the underlying cause. Research indicates that more than a third of South Africans experience excessive stress.
Stress manifests on a physical, emotional and mental level and should be managed on all those levels. Stress weakens our immune systems and makes us more prone to colds, flu and other illnesses. By managing your stress constructively, one can ensure emotional stability, enhanced quality of life, focused energy, increased drive, optimum health and productivity. Stress management techniques equip us to endure pressure and stress more effectively.
Who Should Attend?
Any employee who suffers from stress related symptoms such as headaches, muscle aches and pains, sleep disturbances, poor digestion, impaired concentration, loss of motivation and fatigue amongst many other symptoms. Employees who feel that they cannot cope with the increased pressure within the work environment and who battle to maintain the balance between work pressure and family demands, will benefit. If Stress Management has been indicated as a primary training need on completion of Module 1: Self-Awareness.
Specific Outcomes
The aim of this module is to assist learners in determining their current level of stress and to identify the sources of stress within their lives. It creates an awareness of the negative effect of stress on health. The module is also used to equip learners with the necessary skills and techniques to cope more constructively with stress.
On completion of the course, a person should be able to:
- Determine his/her level of stress.
- Identify significant sources of stress in his/her life.
- Understand how stress affects productivity.
- Be more aware of how excessive stress impacts negatively on health and quality of life.
- Identify if he/she has a stress prone or stress resistant personality.
- Practise relaxation techniques.
- Implement the principles of a healthy and balanced diet.
- Realise the importance of emotional support.
- Know how to expand their support network.
- Identify important energy drainers in their life.
- Develop an inner locus of control.
- Implement the principles of Rational and Positive Thinking.
- Realise the benefits of regular exercise.
