Self-Awareness

For a complete list of workshops on offer and an explanation as to how the Emotometrics process works, click here.

Overview

Emotional Intelligence (EI) refers to the ability to understand and manage our own emotions and to be sensitive to the emotions of others. Emotionally intelligent people are more productive, motivated, innovating and generally self-reliant and resourceful. They are emotionally better adjusted than most people and they succeed in establishing and maintaining healthy relationships. They manage negative emotions such as stress, anger and frustration well. Therefore, they succeed in building trust and offering emotional support. They are excellent team players and leaders.

The full range of workshops consists of the following modules:

  • Self-Awareness
  • Assertiveness Skills
  • Conflict Management
  • Improving Self-Image
  • Stress Management
  • Anger Management
  • Listening
  • Change Management (tba)
  • Listening Skills (tba)

It is advisable to commence with the first module, Self-Awareness. Apart from an overall intrapersonal and interpersonal assessment, the participant`s specific strengths and areas for further development are pinpointed. Each participant receives a report on completion of the Module that suffices as a career development plan to indicate further training needed.

After the participant has addressed his/her recommended primary training needs, he/she can be re-assessed to ascertain personal growth as well as to determine the effectiveness of the interventions.

Specific Outcomes

The main objective of this course is to raise each delegate’s level of self-awareness. Each learner is assessed on 15 different dimensions of emotional intelligence. This creates an awareness of individual strengths and identifies possible
areas for growth.

The intrapersonal dimensions that are addressed are the following: The level of self-acceptance, self-insight, locus of control, values and the extent they are satisfied, ability to do self-disclosure, as well as frustration tolerance and nature of stress and anger management skills. The interpersonal dimensions that are addressed are the following: The level of acceptance of others, listening, assertiveness and conflict management skills, as well as the ability to build trust and offer emotional support.

On completion of this course, a person should be able to:

  • Expand his/her comfort zone in order to cope more effectively with changes in his/her life.
  • Engage more easily in self-disclosure, thereby ensuring a higher level of transparency and interpersonal trust.
  • Have a realistic view of his/her strengths and possible areas for growth.
  • Realise the importance of emotional intelligence and self-awareness in particular for success in the workplace.
  • Succeed in understanding and becoming more accepting of oneself and others.
  • Offer better emotional support to significant others in the work place and home environment.
